In recent years, Romania has been affected by severe river floods. Several towns in Teleorman suffered casualties and huge damages to infrastructure, buildings, livestock and land. Together with Apele Romane, Teleorman Council, Partners for Water and the provincial councils of Overijssel and Gelderland, Royal Haskoning formulated a pilot project for the flood risk assessment of a river catchment in Teleorman County.

The main objective of the project was to contribute to the development of a flood management strategy and action plan in Teleorman, to be extended to other parts of Romania. The implementation of flood management measures was combined with institutional support in order to strengthen the sustainability of such measures.
